Believers continue to suffer severe persecution in India, as the rise of violent Hinduism is spreading to more parts of the country. "Fifty thousand are homeless and 30,000 are hiding in forests, chased like animals by Hindu fanatics who are forcing them to become Hindus or die," According to Indian journalist John Dayal. He says, "The violence in August and September of 2008 has been the worst in our 2,000-year history in India."
Many Christians in India are frightened, and losing hope. We need to pray for them to "not grow weary while doing good" (Gal. 6:9). One Indian brother invited me to come and visit the persecuted saints in Orissa myself, giving permission to publish his account of his recent visit there. When I cautioned him about his discouraged conclusion, "I think we have prayed enough," he agreed, saying, "I have to spend more time with God."
The following is his editted report:
Heroes of Faith in Orissa
October 3, 2008
Report from the state of Orissa, India by Ramchand
Persecution in Orissa is still going on. The Indian government is not taking serious action against the Hindu fanatics.
I have been receiving news and hearing about the persecution in Orissa for the past few weeks but I did not feel that much pain. Now I have been visiting the persecuted Christians in Orissa over the past few days. I was not able to control my emotions after seeing all these people in Berempur hospital and hearing the stories of these innocent people.
Normal people cannot do these things. Only people who are fully demon possessed can commit these kinds of crimes. Let me tell you a few stories of the HEROES OF FAITH (victims) in Orissa state. I have visited them yesterday and today and have talked with them and heard their sad stories.
→ Manini Digal is young 14-year-old girl studying in the 9th standard. She is from Burakama village in Kandamala district. Hindu fanatics attacked Manini’s house and beat all the family members. They raped Manini and poured petrol on her body to kill her. Her whole body was burnt but somehow God protected her. It is very difficult to listen to her story.
We asked her about her faith in Jesus. She said that she is more close to God now than before. She is not questioning God regarding why all these things happened to her. She loves Jesus and wants to follow Him until the end of her life. I was shocked to hear her faith in Jesus.
God gives us all comforts, but still we question God if we face any small difficulties. We need to learn lot from this kid (she’s not a kid spiritually).
C Kameswar Digal is from Gunjiwadi village in Kandamala district. He is the village head (sarpanch) and is also a committed Christian leader in this village. Hindu fanatics attacked his village and started burning houses and killing Christians.
He tried to stop the fanatical Hindu group. They cut his leg and continued to burn houses. He is still in the hospital in Berempur. He wants to go back to his village very soon to see his own village people and how they are doing.
He is not worried about himself or about his leg, but is more worried about his people in the village.
We have a lot to learn from this man about what it means to be a leader and what kind of sacrifice we need to make if we want to lead (serve) people.
C Mrs. Lal Nayak is from Khandamala district. Her family was attacked by Hindu fanatics, who injured these people very badly with rods and swords. Mr. Lal died yesterday in the hospital. We went for burial service. His wife is still in a coma and does not know that her husband died.
There are hundreds and thousands of stories to tell about these innocent people. They have even injured the children very badly.
Here are more photos of Christian victims in the hospital in Berempur district, Orissa state.
Persecution is still going on in this state. Secular Media and journalists have been silent all these weeks. They have started publishing things about these issues and started publicly condemning them this week.
Please pray for God's intervention. Let Him judge. You can also expect many Sauls to become Pauls.
