Background Information on the Current Outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Northeast India The following introduction to the current revival in Northeast India was written by my friend and fellow-worker Reuben Pradhan, and is published on his website (http://torestoration.googlepages.com/).
How it all Started In the year 2003, the Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Synod (West) had their first gathering in a village called Mawkyrwat in the West Khasi Hills of Meghalaya. In this meeting it was decided to hold an ongoing chain-prayer asking God to bring revival to the land once again, as He did a hundred years ago, from 1905 to 1906. For this purpose it was also decided that the doors of the chapels would remain open every morning for believers to gather for prayers. It was acknowledged by all that there was a major spiritual decline in the church and in the moral lifestyle of the people in general. This made the church turn to the Lord in expectancy that He would send a fresh wave of renewal and transformation once again. Meanwhile, in addition to the Presbyterians, many other churches of different denominational backgrounds in Shillong and throughout the state of Meghalaya had been having similar burdens and were beginning to pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the land–for God to send revival once again. The God of Harvest listened to the prayers and cries of His people, and in His everlasting mercy and grace, has showered His blessings by pouring out His Spirit in an unprecedented manner among hundreds and thousands of people. Churches in many places, especially the youngsters have been crying with tears of repentance and seeking God in prayer–at times throughout the night. Lives have been and are being transformed. There is a deeper hunger for God in the lives of believers today than was present before. To read some of the detail accounts of the revival that is taking place in Khasi and Jaintia Hills please browse through the contents of our website. Also, do feel free to contact us for further information and feedback. Thank you and may the Lord continue to shower His holy fire of revival upon all of us.
