Well-intentioned efforts to help can often caus greater problems, even in the church. Modern counseling has introduced the concept of "enabling," the all-too-common trap of well-meaning individuals exhibiting their compassion in ways that actually hinder those they are trying to help. How can we serve people without fostering irresponsibility? Christian ministry is to equip others for the various works they are called to, not being enablers who encourage and perpetuate immaturity and dependence in others by doing their work for them.
