CHRISTIAN PILGRIMS SCHOOLS, INTERNATIONAL

Extension Program

Christian Pilgrims Schools, International is a ministry of Bold Christian Living. Our Independent Study Program (ISP) has historically only enrolled families willing and able to physically attend our meetings. Yet we have had frequent requests to enroll families at a geographic distance from us. The Christian Pilgrims Schools, International (CPSI) Extension Program (EP) is our attempt to serve families outside of our own area. (Please pardon the repeated use of these acronyms in what follows–it is much preferable to spelling out the words each time.)It may also serve as an occasional alternative means of accountability for our local ISP-enrolled families who cannot, for some reason, attend a particular accountability meeting. The following describes the Extension Program.

Each month (August through November and January through May) Christian Pilgrims Schools, International conducts an ISP Accountability Meeting in Springville, California involving the locally enrolled families. The meetings typically consist of a presentation by Jonathan Lindvall, and then dividing into discussion groups for support and accountability. (Our understanding of "accountability" is essentially the same as the scriptural principle of "walking in the light," openly allowing others to see and hear what is happening in our lives.) These meetings are intended to be both instructional and relational.

The CPSI Extension Program is intended to replicate, as closely as possible, what the local ISP families present at our monthly Accountability Meetings experience. Each month EP families will listen to a recording of the previous month’s ISP Accountability Meeting presentation with at least one other family, and then openly share with that family about their actual experience over the previous month.

For many years the presentations at our ISP Accountability Meetings have been recorded for release as audio tapes. The CPSI Extension Program now offers these messages on the www.BoldChristianLiving.com website either for on-demand audio streaming or download as MP3 files saved for later use. EP families will schedule a time each month to listen to the current presentation with at least one other family (possibly, but not necessarily, other CPSI EP-enrolled families). This will serve as their own informal EP Accountability meeting.

(Jonathan Lindvall may occasionally be available in various places to present that month’s message live, rather than by the internet. If he is presenting a seminar or speaking at a convention, he may be available to extend his stay in that area to speak for an EP Accountability Meeting. Or perhaps CPSI families will want to host his seminars in their area, with a view to also having an Accountability Meeting while he is there.)

The EP Accountability meetings should replicate, as much as possible, the CPSI ISP Accountability meetings in Springville. After listening to the recording of the presentation together, 1) the parents (and children, if the parents wish to include them) will informally discuss the presentation and 2) the enrolled family(ies) will share about the previous month’s discipleship planning between the father and mother & their students’ progress, displaying accountability documentation (work samples and either Daily Activity Logs or Fathers’ Plan Sheets) that will be sent to CPSI.

After the monthly EP Accountability meeting, each EP family will send to CPSI, with their accountability documentation, a brief report of their informal visit/meeting. The report will include when and where the meeting took place, who was present, a response to that month’s presentation, and a brief account of how the meeting went. (A form is provided for this report.) The report and accountability documentation should be sent, accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope, so we can return these materials to you for your permanent home file, after we review & record them.

Some of the reporting may be conducted online. We plan to have a special new CPSI e-mail newsletter, including both the ISP and EP families. We may also have a private e-mail or online forum for CPSI families. If there is interest, we may allow some of the reporting to be submitted online.

One hope regarding the CPSI Extension Program’s informal Accountability Meetings is that families will cultivate a taste for open, intimate fellowship with others. Perhaps non-enrolled (even non-homeschooling) families will be invited to join these sessions, and be encouraged to follow the example of the families who share their lives openly. As families welcome challenging messages and then open their hearts to one another, we pray the Lord finds pleasure in the fellowship that arises through this process.
