Christian Pilgrims Schools, International Christian Pilgrims Schools, International (CPSI) is a private Christian school in Springville, California, offering a local Independent Study Program and an Extension Program for those not living in our area. Since the school’s founding in 1981 it has facilitated parents fulfilling their God-given responsibility to train godly sons and daughters in all areas of their lives, including academics. We are grateful to see consistent academic excellence resulting from our pursuits. However, our priority is on training children to know and please the Lord. We are convinced that as we and our children "seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness," as Jesus commanded (Matthew 6:33), all other needs in our lives, including intellectual development, acquisition of academic skills, and knowledge "will be added to" us for His glory. Structure CPSI students are taught directly by their parents under the general supervision of the school. In accordance with the implications of our Statement of Beliefs and Educational Philosophy, the school’s relationship is primarily with the parents, rather than with the students. Studies are only under the "general supervision" of the school, but under the immediate supervision of the parents. CPSI families voluntarily make themselves accountable to the school and one another for fulfillment of the agreed-upon process and objectives of their educational plan. Progress is evaluated on the basis of written documentation and oral reporting by the parents. Parents agree to participate in monthly Accountability Meetings for encouragement, instruction, support, and open accountability among participants. Leadership CPSI is a subsidiary of Bold Christian Living, the ministry of Jonathan Lindvall and his family, in conjunction with various advisors and assistants. Jonathan has wide experience as a teacher and administrator in both public and private schools, pastoral ministry, writing, and speaking at conferences and seminars across the U.S. and internationally. He received his B.A. in Bible/Theology and Social Science at Bethany Bible College in Santa Cruz, California, and his M.A. in Educational Administration from California State University in Bakersfield, California. Curriculum Each CPSI family selects and acquires its own curriculum materials, as they see fit. CPSI provides curricular advice, but leaves the decisions to the parents. We do, though, require that any curriculum be applied using what we call "The PRIORITIES APPROACH." In this approach families prioritize their instructional schedule according to relative importance, scheduling higher priorities before lower priorities. Thus we endeavor to avoid being tyrannized by the seemingly urgent things while neglecting more important things. We encourage families to move toward a discipleship methodology, focusing more on relationship than on curriculum materials, strategies, and structures. We encourage cultivating hearts as a priority over educating minds. We place a much higher emphasis on spiritual disciplines than on typical academic activities. Each family begins their school day with scripture memorization and rehearsal, devotional scripture reading together, and corporate prayer projects, before moving on to any more typical academic pursuits. Expenses Each family determines what it wants to spend on educational materials. CPSI does not charge any fees, but does ask each family to commit to contribute some amount to this ministry monthly.
