September 1, 2006: Revival in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills once again!

Revival Breaks Out in Northeast India

I am thrilled to report an outpouring of the Holy Spirit that has broken out in the Northeast Indian state of Meghalaya in recent days. Having ministered there many times, I am especially elated as I can actually picture the places reported.

My friend, and host in India each time I’ve ministered there, Reuben Pradhan (http://torestoration.googlepages.com/) is part of a house church there, and began homeschooling a couple of years ago. He sent the following note this last Friday:

Revival in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills once again!

Earlier today I got the news that revival had hit the students of All Saints School, which is located right in the middle of our city, Shillong. This school is run by the Church of North India, formerly known as the Church of England. We went to witness what was going on.

I met the principal who's also the bishop of the church and on inquiring he told me that today in the morning just before the beginning of classes the students of the higher secondary classes were hit by the power of God. So instead of taking them to their class they were taken to the chapel which is just above their school building. It was already late in the afternoon when I, and those with me, entered that chapel. There were people, largely students, their parents, and school teachers along with some onlookers. There was singing and some noise of shouting and praying going on.

On closer observation I found two young female students lying on the ground. Some people were hovering around them praying for them. I missed all that had preceded this during the morning, but it appeared to me as if these two girls had gone through some experiences earlier. As such, some people were trying to ward off the power of the enemy and some were asking them to confess Jesus as their Savior and Lord. I passively tried to intrude but it seemed they were too busy with what was going on. After some time these girls regained consciousness and sat on the benches as the rest of the students were singing and leading songs of worship. I, and those with me, went and sat down on one of those old big benches. On the bench in front of us were some people bending on one side and praying. There was another girl there lying down and they were actually praying over her. She seemed to be totally without strength with hardly any movement, her eyes swollen with tears. After some time they helped raise her up to sit down. And although her parents and others were there trying to help her she never uttered a single word. She couldn't. Only stream of tears would swell around her eyes and roll down her cheeks. She seemed totally lost in another world.

After some songs one of their prominent church members stood up and made an announcement that those who would want to continue to stay could stay otherwise they were free to leave since the parents of some students were waiting for them. As we left the chapel the students were still singing.

This is but one report of what's happening here. It has been a couple of months now that people in the Khasi and the Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya have been experiencing a wave of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Every now and then the local TV news reports of such occurrences in this region. It started with the centenary celebration of the revival that had hit this very land a hundred years ago. Some months ago as the Presbyterian Church was preparing to commemorate the revival that had taken place in the Mairang area in the East Khasi Hills, there was also a great anticipation among the Christians in general and lots of fervent prayers and intercessions were being made for it to happen once again. And this indeed did happen. First it started right on the ground where the celebration meeting was going on. Subsequently news began to pour in that it was happening in different places, but especially amongst the Presbyterians, and especially among the younger generation. Then we heard that students in a school in Silchar in Assam were experiencing the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The school authorities, not knowing what was happening, actually had those students taken to a hospital. Some people and pastors from Shillong visited that place while some learned about it when they were watching a national cable news channel based in Delhi. Not being able to ascertain this strange phenomenon, the channel carried the news headline calling it "Mass Hysteria." Lately such occurrences are happening not only among Christians gathered in church buildings but also spreading among students in schools. Today as I was in that chapel and worshiping the Lord, there was a phone call on my cell phone from Ladrymbai in Jaintia Hills, a coal-mining region. A brother from a church I occasionally visit was on the line, but before he could say anything he heard the songs in the background and inquired if I was in a meeting. When I told him what was happening, he quipped that the schools there in Ladrymbai were also experiencing a similar move of God.

This is spreading wider and wider now.

As you rejoice in reading this news please continue to pray for the work of God here, especially that the church leaders and those of older generations would also come under the power of God and that this would spread to every Christian, churches of all denominations, families, every institution, government agencies, and everywhere else.

The prophecy Joel prophesied in Acts 2: 16 - 18 is being fulfilled.

May His Kingdom come! Amen!

When I wrote asking Reuben’s permission to publish this report, he replied,

Hi Jonathan,

> Hi Reuben. What an exciting, encouraging testimony! We are excited to
> hear of this. It makes me wish, even more, that I was there with you in
> India right now.

Oh yes! Last night S----- was telling me over the phone that L----- and S-----, another brother from his church, left for a village called Sohoing on the way to Nongstoin where my elder brother D---- and his family live. Both in Sohoing and also in a school in Nongstoin called Anderson High School, people and children are coming under the power of God. 40 different places in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills are reported to be experiencing revival.
